This is my first time participating in Wittle People Wednesday, and hopefully I’ll be a regular as I try to document Ri’s first year. Tomorrow marks seven amazing weeks since she joined us “on the outside.”
She’s vocal, locking eyes with mine before sharing her secrets. Sometimes she works herself up into a frenzy, legs kicking and arms flailing, before releasing a simple “oooh.”
And she’s found her hands, often linking them together and wringing them like an old woman in contemplation. She likes to suck on her fist, but thankfully has not returned to putting fingers in her mouth. Her grip is ferocious, and she clings to my shirt or my hair; once she even got a hold of my lip.
Sometimes she’s so discontent that I join her in her sadness – - nothing seems to soothe her mood or return her smiles and sweet coos. We still nurse sitting up, with all the lights turned on. More often, now, we end up sitting up well after, while Ri shifts and adjusts herself in my arms. Putting her down to sleep is no longer easy. These times are exhausting, and we’ve not had a good sleep for several days.

We’ve altered our photo taking a little bit this last week, trying to spend more time just being rather than “creating.” Occasionally, we play dress up and snap a few portraits.

But the simple lifestyle captures are fast becoming my preferred photos. I’ll miss this time – this opportunity – to witness her daytime discoveries when I return to work next Friday.

*sigh* What a bundle of precious sweetness!
