Memorial Day

Memorial Day has always been special.  Having been raised in a family where all six of my uncles served in the Armed Forces, where my grandfather was one of the elite Tuskeegee Airmen fighter pilots, and where numerous other cousins and relatives committed themselves to preserving the aims of the United States and its military, honoring heros is second nature.  I love that my family serves its country.  We’ve sent our loved ones into combat – – fighting on the front lines and in support.  We’ve traveled to duty stations foreign and domestic, packing up our posessions and biding farewell to the security of familiarity.  We’ve prayed for safe keeping over our own P.O.W.s and nursed our soldiers back to health (both physical and mental).  And we’ve said goodbye early to those who didn’t return to us.

God Bless the soldiers across the world – – especially those far from home, those missing their loved ones, and those battling the demons of war. Indeed there is a sacrifice made to preserve the liberties we hold dear.  And a special thank you to the families who allow the service to borrow their sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, cousins, moms, and dads.
